One of the biggest excuses for not working at home is not being able to find real opportunites. I’ve been known to complain about this myself. But the reality is there is enough opportunities out there. The key is time, research and my weakness at times PATIENCE. But we must realize that patience is truly a virtue. While everyone is busy with various things in life, there is always a way to find time, even if just a little time that can be used to make money at home.
Just a few advantages of working from home:
Transportation: This is one of my top reasons. With today’s gasoline prices, the ability to telecommute to a HOME office job and work strictly from the confines of your own home is definitely a blessing.
Child Care: Working from home could cut down tremendously on the amount of time you need to pay for child care. In addition to saving money, just spending more time with your family can have added benefits of being a very close family.
Stress Reduction & Flexibility: Having a newborn now, this is definitely another one of the best pros for me. With the ability to allocate your time more effectively there is a great stress relief.
And lastly
Tax breaks: Suggestion, keep all receipts that are related to your home office. That new computer or/and computer desk. Every time you make that high speed internet payment and even copies your electric bill receipts. These are all things we get credit for when filing our tax return. Oh and believe me, the list goes on!
Okay so there are some disadvantages:
Isolation- You are not physically around your co-workers or supervisors. Loneliness can sneak on anytime. Solution for that is to schedule regular lunches, exercise or my favorite shopping outside the home.
Discipline- Lack of it is more like it. Most work at home jobs allow you make your own schedule, need I say more. One of my solutions: Make yourself a schedule for each day, week or month and TRY HARD to stick with it. There is always some flexibility for different emergencies or last minute appointments that may pop up.
Trying to overcoming friends & family- When they know you're working from home, they're more likely to call or drop in. Solution: Be firm with them. You are working and unless there is a true emergency, you're not to be interrupted. If all else fails, screens your calls and let your voicemail answer the personal ones.
So, is working from home right for you? You are the only one that can answer that question. I truly love working from home each day. It has been the perfect fit for me and though it does has it disadvantages, is definitely a blessing to not only me but my family.
You should consider the advantages and disadvantages I have outlined above, and compare my list with your own list of pros and cons. You'll find the answer.
